My longest Non-Filer Case – 45 years!

One of my strangest cases started with a call from the girlfriend of a current client. She said she needed to bring her father in to see me ASAP, and they were in my office bright and early the next day. He had a very serious problem – he went to the ATM to get money to purchase medicine for his wife, and his account was frozen by the State Taxing Authorities (remember – it’s not only the IRS that can levy a bank account). This was a case that was urgent and we started work immediately.
I contacted the State and was told “Abby, your client hasn’t filed in 45 YEARS!”.
That day, we were able to get a release on the bank account, and we filed a number of years for the taxpayer. The taxpayer was able to access the money and get the necessary medication for his wife.
Can you guess what happened next? That’s right………he went missing and we never heard from him again. Maybe in another 45 years?
